Archipelago x Filipino Story Time for Filipino American History Month

Identity, culture… empowerment. So much of our Filipino American History can’t be found in the history books we learn from in school and sadly won’t always show up searching online. Thankfully this generation has the Cordova’s who taught us that you need to go out to find, learn, and document the stories of our people.

Earlier this month we were honored and excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with @filipinostorytimesea to read and explore the children’s book, Araw sa Palegnke! Though we are not in the Philippines we can find so much right here at home. One of the most iconic Seattle spots is Pike Place Market—our beloved Pacific Northwest palengke. The famous market has had many businesses and people come and go, but few people know that for over 60 years, the longest running original stall is being run by the same woman who has been working daily (only leaving to go to church) Filipino American, Auntie Lina.

We dropped by to visit her this month and we encourage everyone to find time to learn and discover by dropping by Auntie Lina’s produce stand, arcade no.7, across from Lowell’s. Say hi to Auntie Lina and her son, Donny. She loves children and loves to chat, ask her anything!

Happy Filipino American History Month!
